System requirements, setup, troubleshooting, and everything else about running NetL. For the quick version, see the How to Use guide instead.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 (64-bit) or later |
| Additional drivers | A virtual camera driver (e.g. OBS Virtual Camera) and a virtual audio cable (e.g. VB-CABLE), installed once |
| Internet connection | Required only for account sign-in; not required for local video playback once signed in |
We haven't separately published certified minimum CPU/RAM figures — NetL's own footprint is lightweight (it plays a local video file), so requirements are largely set by your virtual camera driver and the calling app you use it with, not by NetL itself.
Uninstalling NetL does not delete your account or account data from our servers — see our Privacy Policy for how to request account deletion.
| Permission / access | What NetL uses it for |
|---|---|
| Physical camera | Not used. NetL creates a new virtual camera device rather than reading your physical one. |
| Physical microphone | Not used by default. Only involved if you choose to route your real mic through NetL as a passthrough. |
| Screen recording | Not requested, not used. NetL has no screen-capture feature. |
| File system | Used to read the video file you choose to import. NetL does not scan your files beyond what you explicitly open. |
| Network | Used only for account sign-in/session checks — not for the video/audio pipeline itself. |
New versions are published as new installers on our GitHub Releases page and on our Download page. NetL does not currently auto-update in the background — check the Releases page periodically, or watch for an in-app notice, for the latest version.
Almost always a missing driver step, not a NetL bug. Confirm you've installed a virtual camera driver (e.g. OBS Virtual Camera) — this is required alongside NetL, not bundled inside it. Restart the calling app after installing the driver.
Confirm you've selected your virtual audio cable (e.g. VB-CABLE) as the microphone inside the calling app — not your physical microphone — and that NetL isn't muted (check the mute toggle in the app).
Try a lower-resolution source video, close other GPU/CPU-intensive applications, and confirm your virtual camera driver is up to date. See Section 10 for performance notes.
Confirm you have an internet connection (sign-in requires one) and that you're using the correct email/password. See our Support page for account recovery.
Because NetL creates a virtual camera device rather than depending on a physical one, there is no physical webcam to "disconnect." If the calling app you're using loses its connection to the NetL virtual device (for example, after a driver update or an OS sleep/wake cycle), reselecting NetL as the camera in that app's settings — or restarting the calling app — typically resolves it.
If you have both a physical webcam and NetL's virtual camera available, most calling apps let you choose which one to use from a camera-selection dropdown in their own settings — NetL does not hide or disable your physical camera, it simply adds itself as another option.
If NetL crashes or shows an error, restarting the app is the first step. If it happens repeatedly, email support@netl.online with what you were doing when it happened and, if possible, your NetL version number (visible in-app) — this is the fastest way for us to help.
NetL is designed to pass through video smoothly at up to 60fps depending on your source video and hardware. We have not published formal, independently-benchmarked performance figures across hardware configurations — actual performance depends on your CPU/GPU, the source video's resolution and frame rate, and what else is running on your machine.
NetL is built and tested for Windows 10/11 (64-bit). It is designed to work as a selectable camera/microphone source in any application that lets you choose a camera and microphone device — this has been used with apps including Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, Telegram, and OBS Studio, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with every application, and third-party apps may change in ways outside our control (see our Terms of Service, Section 9).
The current release is v1.1.0. Detailed, version-by-version release notes are published on our GitHub Releases page as each version ships — that page is the source of truth for version history; we haven't duplicated a full historical changelog here.
In principle, yes — NetL registers as a standard camera/microphone device your OS can offer to any app. We've specifically used it with Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, Telegram, and OBS.
Yes — they show up as separate camera options; most calling apps let you pick one from a dropdown.
No — see our Privacy Policy for the full camera/microphone transparency section.
Not currently available — Windows is the only supported platform today. Watch our GitHub Releases page for updates.
